The electric energy of 400 performers was combined to thrill and transport a full house on a magnificent journey of power and majesty… Carl Orff’s stunning Carmina Burana.
This Canberra Symphony Orchestra presentation of an enduring 20th century masterpiece astounded an audience that was deligthed by such a magnificent piece. Written in 1936, Carmina Burana has its roots in a group of secular thirteenth-century songs discovered in a monastery during the 1800s.
The CSO was joined by the massive Canberra Combined Choir and star soloists from Opera Australia: the exciting young baritone José Carbó was joined by Helpmann winner James Egglestone and the soaring sweet voice of Teresa La Rocca. Our enlarged stage was set for an unforgettable journey exploring the pleasures of love, the celebration of wine, the eternal hope of Spring, and the pagan ritualism of fate. "Under Nicholas Milton they sparked....the brass excelled and instrumental soloists shone". Humphrey McQueen, The Australian. "The sweet sound of a real success". Lyn Mills, Times 2. "The clarity and realism of the sound was impressive.. an expressive intensity that gripped...a total performance of constant delights which deserved the sustained standing ovation at its conclusion". W.L.Hoffman, The Canberra Times. Canberra Symphony Orchestra, more than words can say…
