Due to persistent inclement weather and associated risks, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra (CSO) has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Summer Prom.
Even if this weather abates next week, it’s extremely unlikely that the conditions will be safe in time for the event on 4 December, let alone earlier in the week for infrastructure installation.
While the Prom has gone ahead with light rain in the past, this year’s event is unfortunately no longer viable or safe following recent, heavy rainfalls. The CSO has identified unacceptable risks to patron safety, notwithstanding the risk of vehicles becoming bogged and other damage.
Indoor relocation or postponement are also unviable due to current COVID-19 restrictions, anticipated interstate travel over the summer period and the weather outlook.
Refunds will be automatically processed from the week commencing 13 December 2021. If you wish to convert your refund to a tax-deductible donation to the orchestra, please email philanthropy@cso.org.au by COB Friday 10 December with your full name and five-digit booking reference number.
The CSO will divert 50 per cent of any ticket donations to HeartStrings, the orchestra’s ticket fund for members of the community experiencing financial hardship, social isolation or other barriers to the concert hall.
We wish you a safe and restful festive season and hope to see you at concerts in 2022.
Take care,
The CSO team
