Canberra Weekly Matinee Magic, Beatles in Symphony

Saturday 8 October, 2016
Llewellyn Hall, ANU, 2:00pm

Conductor: Guy Noble

It seems like yesterday when the Beatles arrived in a yellow submarine and changed the world forever. With legendary hits such as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Penny Lane, When I’m Sixty-Four, Hey Jude and many more, the appeal of the ‘Fab Four’ has spanned generations. Now the Canberra Symphony Orchestra steps out into the psychedelic, mind-altering world of the 1960s when the musical genius of the Beatles is recreated in a spectacular symphonic showcase.

In the hands of master orchestral arrangers, best loved Beatles hits are refashioned into creative, evocative and entertaining orchestral suites. The earth shattering language of the rock world meets the lush romantic sound of the classical symphonic tradition. Be transported to another time and place when you join us on a uniquely magical, classical mystery tour where the sound that changed the world forever is refashioned and celebrated in full orchestral splendour.

For the Canberra Weekly Matinee Magic, we encourage you to dress up in your best Beatles-inspired outfits and costumes.  Whether you go full Sgt Peppers, or just wear a shirt with psychedelic colours, you’ll be adding to the recreation of the vibe of the era (sans drug-induced hallucinations, of course).  We have five family passes to the 2017 Shell Prom Picnic Concert to give away to the best dressed.
