The Kingsland Collective is a Canberra Symphony Orchestra professional development program for tertiary and postgraduate students ready to take the next step on their musical journey.
Launching in 2022, the Kingsland Collective will offer professional training and mentorship to a cohort of approximately 15 emerging musicians playing at an advanced level.
Led by Kirsten Williams, Canberra Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Concertmaster, the program will encompass chamber and orchestral skills, audition preparation and professional development, offering training in a supportive, collegiate environment.
Participants will benefit from masterclasses with Jessica Cottis, CSO Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, and other guest artists. The program includes an array of exclusive performance opportunities.
Opportunities:
- Regular chamber music and orchestral workshops with Kirsten Williams and other CSO musicians.
- Masterclasses and professional development with high profile international artists, including Jessica Cottis and Benjamin Bayl.
- Exclusive performance opportunities and access to CSO rehearsals.
- Industry networking opportunities.

ELIGIBILITY
The Kingsland Collective is open to tertiary and postgraduate students playing at an advanced level. Applications are welcome from all orchestral instruments (including piano).

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
To audition for the Kingsland Collective, applicants will be required to present:
- two contrasting works (unaccompanied).
Auditions will also comprise sight reading and a short interview.
If live auditions are not possible due to COVID-19 restrictions, candidates will be required to submit video auditions and an interview will be arranged via Zoom.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Kirsten Williams will be available each week for chamber music and audition preparation tutorials. Additionally, targeted professional development sessions with visiting artists will be delivered throughout the year, including:
- Jessica Cottis
- Benjamin Bayl
- Katy Abbott
- Touring guests from Musica Viva (e.g. Van Diemen’s Band)
Successful candidates are expected to participate fully in the opportunities offered throughout the program.
FEES
There are no fees associated with participating in the Kingsland Collective.
