Strings
A performance enrichment program for enthusiastic string players aged 8-13. The Kingsland Strings is an is an exciting opportunity for Canberra’s youngest string players aged 8 and above to rehearse and perform alongside CSO String players.
This unconducted ensemble gives string players a challenging and supportive program to develop their skills and passion for classical music. All participants receive specialized training and mentorship in solo and ensemble playing. The Kingsland Strings welcomes musicians looking to gain confidence and ensemble experience.
Audition requirements
Applicants must prepare the following:
- One own choice piece (maximum of five minutes)
- Required two excerpts for your instrument (follow all tempo and bow markings, play only the notes between the brackets):
- Two scales:
- B-flat major 2 octaves (hook stroke) tempo: crotchet = 84
- B-flat harmonic minor 2 octaves (slurred 1 octave per bow) rhythm: crotchet plus 7 quavers, tempo crotchet = 90
- Possible sight reading.
Eligibility
- Ages 8-12 in 2027.
- Minimum instrument level AMEB grade 4 or equivalent.
Fees
- The participation fee for 2027 is $700 plus GST.
- A limited number of scholarship places will be offered to students facing financial barriers to participation.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 6 November. Auditions will be scheduled in late November.
