A performance enrichment program for enthusiastic string players aged 8-13.

The Kingland Strings is an exciting opportunity for Canberra’s youngest string players to rehearse and perform alongside CSO concertmaster Kirsten Williams.

This unconducted ensemble gives string players a challenging and supportive program to develop their skills and passion for classical music. All participants receive specialized training and mentorship in solo and ensemble playing. The Kingsland Strings welcomes musicians looking to gain confidence and ensemble experience.

Audition information

• Applications for our 2025 Ensembles have now closed. Auditions will be scheduled in November for the 2026 programs.

Eligibility

• Ages 8-13 in 2025.
• Minimum instrument level AMEB grade 6 or equivalent.

Program Structure

• Kingsland Strings rehearsal weekly on Wednesdays throughout the school year.
• Rehearsals run from 5pm-6:30pm followed by a 30-minute performance class.
• Kingsland Strings will present two concerts in Term 2 and Term 4.
• Participants must regularly attend rehearsals and performance class, performing at least once a term in performance class.
• Kingsland Strings is an extension program designed to build on existing learning – students already participating in school ensemble or orchestra programs are expected to continue and to have a private instrumental teacher. There is no requirement to study with a specific teacher to be a member of Kingsland Strings.

Fees

• The participation fee for 2025 is $620.00 plus GST.
• A limited number of scholarship places will be offered to students facing financial barriers to participation.
