Pip Thompson is a longstanding member of both the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and Canberra Strings, with whom she performs regularly.
Pip is a graduate of the Canberra School of Music, where she studied with Miwako Abe and Vincent Edwards. Pip joined the Phoenix Collective Quartet (PCQ) in 2021, and maintains a busy performance schedule in Sydney, Canberra and the Central Coast. She appeared with PCQ at the National Folk Festival in 2022, sharing the stage with Katie Noonan, Martha Marlow and the late Archie Roach, and will tour Australia with PCQ in 2024 as part of Musica Viva’s Music in Schools program.
Pip also has a keen interest in Eastern European music. She has performed at many major Australian folk festivals with Romanian band Super Rats, including WOMADelaide in 2020. In 2022, Pip was awarded a Critics’ Circle Award for ‘consistent excellence over a wide range of styles’.
